I'm entering at Kiwishiwi Lake and heading to the Malberg Lake area on June 7. I'de appreciate any information on a hot bite in the area for the second week of June. Thankyou

The fishing up that way will be pretty good that time of year. The smallie spawn will be done by then, but you will catch males still. The walleyes are all over, I would suggest bringing leaches. The last campsite on the north side of the lake is up there with the best in the BWCA, so it is one to check out. There is also a set of waterfalls on the way up that chain of lakes which is good to check out. It's a fun paddle, you will surely enjoy it. Good Paddling...

Ditto on the north arm camp site. Koma, Polly and Malberg are fantastic for walleye. I agree bring leeches. Crawlers also work well. The old stand-by Shad Rap has always been a consistent producer as well. Night fishing, casting to shorelines can also be very productive. Always an option, trap some crayfish at camp the first night, walleyes inhale them at will and they also will tempt any smallie in the area. Good luck.

Has anyone fished these lakes in mid-September? I'm curious to know what to expect.

I have had limited experience on these lakes in September and October. I have found the walleyes in the deeper water. Usually 25 - 40 foot range, or on a major break adjacent to deep water. I like using fireball jigs with a homemade crawler harness stinger off the eye with a lively nightcrawler. I have caught the occasional smallie while fishing walleye. I never have really established a pattern for fall smallies.
