we are doing our first trip from the ely side, where is a good place to fish and camp? We are entering from lake one, we don't want more than a one day portage for sure.

Any of the numbered lakes are good fishing or head to Horseshoe-I have never been but others have said fishing is good and can easily reached in a day.

Camp near the south end of Lake Three, more away from people.

Fish the rapids near Hudson, troll 3 & 4 for northern pike, they are really hitting well right now.

Take a day trip over to Insula if you don't mind a long day, good walleye fishing there.

We founs some good smallmouth in one of the portage lakes between Lake four, and Hudson. Fish the rapids and the first hundred yards after them in the samll lake after the first portage. Caught them on gitzits and leeches. The deep hole where Insula runs into Hudson has some good walleye in it too. Lindy rig a leech. Hudson is easy to get to from the number lakes.
