Does anyone know if there is cell coverage on Fourtown? Providers that work? Thanks

I was up there last year and coverage would not allow a call to go thru but I was able to send and receive texts intermittently. I read somewhere on here that a Verizon user was able to make a call on Boot.
I use Sprint.

I have verizon and I had coverage at the Mudro parking lot. Supposedly according to their coverage maps there's potential for service to a point up there but I suspect you'd have to bushwack up to the top of a ridge in order to place a call. Lakeside there may be enough signal to send/receive a text.

I don't know about coverage on Fourtown, but we had coverage (Verizon Blackberry) at the most northern campsite on Boot. I'll confess to reading email while sitting on the throne. The voice coverage was convenient for making a motel reservation in Ely after we decided which day we were coming out of the BWCA.

I haven't tried it on Fourtown, but there is definitely cell coverage on Boot. We've used Verizon at sites on both ends of Boot, and I used my Sprint coverage at the site on the south end of the lake last June.

Sprint should work on the south half of the lake. Sadly, this has recently become an important part of our trip planning -- the ability to check in with my father-in-law each night regarding my mother-in-law's health condition. Last year -- to my disbelief -- my wife was able to talk with her dad from our site on Gabbro. We're going in at Mudro this summer, so last week we checked Sprint's street-level map and it indicated a similar strength of coverage for southern Fourtown and Horse Lakes.

Thanks for all of the information. I have never even thought about bringing a cell on a trip but circumstances this year, for this specific trip, make cell phone coverage attractive. Once again, I appreciate the information.

I hear ya, GC. I'm as opposed as the next guy to unnecessary intrusions to the solitude, but there are circumstances. Last summer was the first time for me... my wife was adamant that this was a condition of the trip. We warned her dad that it might be impossible and we were relieved (and a bit surprised) when it worked.

Sure, we'd all love to enjoy the wildness without cell phones but sometimes circumstances dictate otherwise.

I was also curious about cell coverage at the Mudro parking lot. I was wondering if I could call my outfitter to come pick us up. That way, we could leave whenever we wanted rather than fit some predetermined schedule. It sounds like there should be cell coverage in the parking lot.
