I spent too much time indoors this weekend watching the hockey tournament but I spent Sunday outside and was rewarded by the sight of a redwing blackbird and a bluebird. I also got a good look at a peregrine falcon which was pretty cool. Man do I love spring!!

I did the "local" lakes tour in my home region today (South Central MN)Many of the lakes are opening, and the ducks and other water birds are returning. Today I saw Redheads, bluebills, ring necks, and mallards on local lakes. My favorite sighting though was a pair of Trumpeter Swans on a thawing pond, near my home. A lot of the swans that we see migrating north in the spring are Tundra Swans, they are smaller, and have a yellow marking near thier bill. These are the ones I see most often. So seeing the Trumpeters was a real treat.

The marshes by my house are now filled with calls of the red winged blackbird and this morning there were several robins singing in the neighborhood. What a difference the warm winds had.
