Nice campsite! I noticed your blue barrel under the tarp. Just curious - where do you put the blue barrel at night? We're taking a blue barrel for the first time this year - and would like to know what others do. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure we just left it right there.

With the exception of occassionally using it as a table (for cribbage etc.) We just leave it locked up near the firegrate overnight with our pots and pans on top. That way if something does decide to snoop around? The pots banging will scare it away & alert us of its presence.

Coincidentally this site was the one where we've encountered our closest call to date. (used the barrel for many years now) One night a mink came into camp and brushed up against the barrel moving the pots 'n' pans a bit. But left immediately thereafter & didn't distrurb the barrel the rest of our stay there.

One night on Disappointment I had a bear walk right through our camp. Never even went near the barrel. They do a pretty good job of keeping the smell in.

Also. Don't know if this makes a difference? But, we do make an effort not to chop food or fish on the lid. Or, if we do, we make sure & thoroughly clean it off.

Thanks TB! I think we are going to do the same with the blue barrel. When we bought the harness for the barrel at Canoecopia (purchased Ostrom), the gentleman there told us to do the same. I was kind of skeptical at first, but I think this is what we are going to do. I appreciate your feedback!
