What size leeches do you use in the BWCA? Small, medium, or Large? Does it even matter?

I always take a pound of jumbo leeches for two people,
seems to be enough for 7-8 days of fishing.

It depends on where you go and what you fish for.

Jumbo are good but you get a lot more in the large version (@ 10-12 dz a pound). Jumbo have about 7-9 dozen per pound.

If you will be in an area with lots of smallies and pan fish, try the large, not jumbo. Or just get a few jumbo.

When I go fishing for a 5 day trip I bring enough to give me at least 18 a day. But then I fish hard with leeches, not too much with artificial.

Many people use about 9-12 leeches a day (some more, a few less). So if you figure one pound is 10 dozen, if you have 5 days and 2 people, there is your 1# of leeches (also figuring some may die and have to be thrown away, or other things).

Hey VNorth, I will be there Friday to get some of those leeches... Why does time pass so slow when you are coming up to Ely? Take care... Bruce
