Okay, I'm getting my stuf together in eager anticipation of being in the BWCA in two weeks... maybe a little early... but, still getting ready. While rumaging through my lines, I found a spool of Spiderwire, and was wondering if Spiderwire worked as well as a steel leader for northerns. I know they will slice through monofilament like a knife through butter but, spiderwire at times is hard to cut woth scissors. If anyone has tried it... Let me know how it worked... Thanks Bruce

About the spiderwire, it will only work slightly better then the monfiliment. The problem with the spiderwire is the once the northern touches a tooth to the line, it starts to frey it making weak spots that will break. Hope the helps you out.
Just read the date of your post & realized you have already been in & back! Sorry. I haven't checked the boards lately. Hopefully others will be helped by the info!
thanks anyway, My friend found out what you said was true, I took mono and a leader... he used fireline... I caught many fish... and only got bit off fishing a gitzit with no leader...
