Smartwool are great. Light Hikers for portaging and 1/4 socks for around camp. The liners are great by themselves as light socks for hot weather and wear really well.

I wear Merino wool socks 100% of the time, when canoeing and all the rest of the time, too. Most of mine are Smartwool, but some are Icebreaker and a few other brands. If I am in socks, they are wool, period.

Double ditto Mooseplums when it is cold but add virgin wool to my answer.
I usually do not wear socks when it is hot when I am camping but if I do, same answer.

Fox Socks with merino wool all year long for both every day and for camping. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law work there and I never run out of socks. They just don't wear out.

Wool (smart or dumb) year round when camping. Trying to amass enough wool socks to outright replace my daily drivers but not quite there yet.

Also hoping for wool this year for Christmas, we'll see....

I like your thinking....I used to resist wearing my Smartwool or Tekko socks if I wasn't out hiking or paddling on a trip, but it's too darned tempting to get the extra bit of comfort day to day!

BTW, got a pair of Fits socks at 'Copia and they are the most comfortable yet.

my brother inlaw runs up to Osage and gets me those every year for x -mas. You're right, those fox socks never wear out.

Merino wool socks are my all-around favorite. However, on my cold-water solo trips I have worn Coolmax liners under high neoprene socks when paddling.

I also wear the liners under waders.

Ditto on the Merino wool. It's all I wear...year round. Have for years.

Wool during the day when my feet may get wet, even in Chotas with Knee Highs, but when its wet use neoprene around camp under my Solomon water shoes.

Smartwool during the day, WigWams at night in the sleeping bag. Those are thick enough that I don't mind walking around in them at night if nature calls. And comfy.

I'm weird-- I like cotton socks around the house when it is not cold. I could do wool, but prefer to save the wool for outdoors or cold. Wool in outdoor environments summer or winter.
