I was on a Q trip with my pal Boppa, and he had one of these little fella's in his pack. I was really impressed!! I brought the Small Forest Axe, and He had the Mini Hatchet. We used it as a wedge, and used the Small Forest Axe as a Mallet, it worked peachy. Also good for a small hammer, when pounding tent peg or something.
Liked it so well, that when I got home I scored me one.
Anyone else use the Mini Hatchet??? any remarks?

I think they are cool as hell! I kinda want one but have not used one. Not sure if I want to trust my life to one but they might be a perfect summer tool in the north country. I still would prefer a full size axe for shoulder seasons and winter.

suncatcher..i have the Mini,i bought it years ago for about $85.
i see they are locked up in a glass case now!
it's the best hatchet i have ever used going back to the 1950's and the only edged tool i ever cut myself on.i had it out of the case and was walking a few feet to cut away some dead fall up in the Q.i just touched the blade with the side of my finger,i know bad carry, i did not know i was cut until i saw the blood. very sharp and it stays that way over a two week trip.i do some splitting with it but i don't like to hit the head as i could miss and damage the handle.
great balance and with a flick of the wrist the head almost go's by it's self.

SunCatcher, I also have a GB mini hatchet and really like it. I did have an initial problem. When I used it to baton wood and hammer in some tent stakes, I noticed that the axe head became a tad loose from the handle, as if the fit was not tight. It was loose enough to notice so I sent it back to GB USA. They quickly sent me a new one. So, I plan to use it but this made me wonder whether it was tough enough for depending on for BW trips. Since, I have purchased the GB outdoor axe which I think will split wood better and is not much heavier, although it is not as nifty as the mini. I did not think I abused the mini in my initial use, in fact, I was careful with it. Otherwise, I really like it. Monolith
