Last week I was basecamping in the Nature Conservancy's Debsconeag Wilderness Area near Maine's Mount Katahdin. My waterfront site faced another site with a nice couple about a half mile across the lake. We got friendly over the days.

One morning the couple paddles past while fishing from their canoe. The wife says, "So, how do you stay dry in that thang of yours you got hanging there when it rains?"

While the husband searched for a place to hide, I politely explained how I tighten down the sides of the tarp over my hammock when rain is in the forecast. I mentioned that the rig has served me well through many rain storms, including several coastal gales.

Then, I mentioned that rain was expected that evening. I invited her to stop by and check things out in the morning. She immediately started shaking her head from side to side and said, "Our tent leaks. We always pack up and head home when rain is in the forecast."

I smiled and wished them well ...

Brandon @ Warboonnet is suppose to have my new Superfly to me in time for he trip.
I was not comfortable relying on the Claytor diamond tarp I have, as this will be my first wilderness trip using the hAmmock.

Sounds like she was intrested in the angle of your dangle. I always like explaining my set up to ground dwellers.

I got checked on a campsite by Forest Service for my permit. One of the FS guys said to me that guess that you don't need a flat pad. Said nope as the water was running under me.....and off into the rain the two paddled.

So it looks like you have the same set as mine. How do you fasten the JRB under quilt? I buckle the 3 points on each end but mine seam to shift around to 1 side or the other. Cant seem to adjust in a way holds it in place.

twst -- Wish I could help you. I started with the JRB 3/4 length UQ and, like you, had problems with the entire quilt switching to one side. Then, I purchased the full-length UQ for winter camping and discovered that it stays comfortably under me all night long using the standard 3-point installation method.
