      Need granola bar recipe

My wife likes to make several food items for my annual fishing trip with the guys into Quetico. She has tried 3-4 times to make granola-healthy-breakfast bars but is getting frustrated. The bars taste good, but they are don't hold together well and crumble apart as you eat them.

Does anyone have a good recipe to send or post?

thanks

Have her look over on Pinterest. My wife gets tons of recipes over there on it. Also check out this site. Trailcooking.com

Have you tried Hudson Bay Bread

Not sure how "healthy" it is though.

I'll be making a batch tonight or tomorrow as we pack for our Quetico trip departing Friday. HBB is a high energy bar and so tasty. I wouldn't call it a Granola bar, but it's in the neighborhood. Certainly worthy of giving it a try.

Crumbly is probably from baking too long, too hot, or you need more 'binders' to hold it together. Whole oats won't suck up as much mousture as quick oats, and may help hold it together.

My granola recipe:

1/2 c honey
1/2 c canola oil
1/2 c hot water
2 tsp vanilla
5 c quick oats
3 TB powdered milk
1/2 c wheat germ
1/2 to 1 cup your choice of extras: nuts, seeds, chips, dry fruit or whatever

Try one of these sets of extras:
2 granny smith apples (diced small), 3 TB cinnamon
2 bananas mashed, 1 c coconut
1 can crushed pineapple, 1 c coconut, 5 TB brown sugar

To make it hold together well, I make sure the mixture is fairly wet - like gloppy oatmeal. Then dry completely; when you think it is done, dry it a couple more hours.

I dry mine in the dehydrator and usually start it after dinner and let it go till morning. Dont know what temp or how long you might need to do if your drying in the oven.

All those extras you put in there made me hungry. Like I need more stuff to dehydrate haha. Thanks WC. If the dehydrator gets a break in the next week, I may try this recipe.
