Can anybody tell me if there is an existent portage on the east end of the south arm of Cirrus Lake, that would dump you directly into Quetico Lake, all in a line to then paddle up McAlpine Creek into Kasakokwog?

I was up there in the end of September, and I met a guy on a solo that said he couldn't find it. He said it was all blowdowns.

So to make this more basic, say I put in at Beaverhouse, head through the pylons up the portage into the unnamed lake, then into Cirrus. I paddle dead east to the very end of that bay.

The McKenzie map indicates a portage there. This gentlemen informed me it was non-existent, but I just can't believe it.

I haven't personally been there, but my GPS and Memory Maps have a 131 rod portage marked there.

The Chrismar park map shows a portage of 680 meters, so there probably was a portage there at one time. Question is if it's been used or maintained lately. (It also shows 3 other portages between Cirrus and Quetico in that stretch you described. One of those I believe does not exist or has not been used/maintained because I could not find it on the Quetico side.) I bet most people don't go into Kasakokwog from Cirrus, but go from Quetico via Beaverhouse. (More paddling but only one "easy" portage and definitely the way I would go.) I'd call the park office if I were trying to pick an entry permit (Cirrus vs. Quetico) based on the existence/condition of that portage. --Goose
