I had to try the exofficio stuff. I ordered one pair and I'm blown away. How can something so light work so well? The other side says... How can underwear cost so much? Is there an outlet that sells them in quantities a little cheaper? Also much easier to wash on a trip. Did I hear there was a generic brand?

There is nothing like Buck Naked from Duluth Trading Co. In the past 2 months I have outfitted myself with their boxers, undershirts, belt, shorts and even some pants. Expensive but worth it. When I travel on week long business trips I only need to bring a couple boxers and a couple undershirts. I bring a very small bottle of laundry detergent (2 oz.) and wash them in the sink and dry overnight. Cuts way down of odor in the suitcase and space as well.

I got some discounted Under Armor boxers from their outlet. I, too, never thought underwear could feel that good. The other thing is, I can pack 2 pair in less space than for one pair cotton briefs.
Here's the link to the outlet. UA Undies

I do bring way too much underwear. Amazing what a change of underwear will do to your state of mind sometimes.

Adidas Moisture Wicking Briefs. I get them for $6 per pair at Marshalls and they are the same material as the Patagonia Underwear that costs $34 per pair. Light, breathable, comfy, wash well and dry very fast. I can find them almost every time I go for the last 8 years since I first found them.

They're the best, I've been sold on them for years now. I have yet to be disappointed by any of their products. I've had some luck finding them cheaper at the REI online outlet, typically discontinued patterns.

I fell head over heals in love with very expensive Pantagonia microfiber underwear last year and have been buying one pair every time I go to REI or have a little extra cash. Then I discovered the exact same thing for half the price at a department store. I bought all the colors and threw away all of my other underwear.

yes, the give-n-goes. ;-)
one downside, they arent good skid mark blockers like cotton undies are. wear a pair of light colored shorts for a few days, youll see what I mean. haha

HA!
I'm never concerned about skidmarks. 'Cause so what? However, chafing can really ruin a an outdoor adventure. I'm a big sweater, so powder isn't as effective as nice, good fitting underwear. I prefer the feel of going commando, but it sometimes leads to chafing on my fat legs, so I uee boxer briefs on all camping trips.

I was kind of shying away from this thread, but it's been alive for almost two weeks so I will put in my two cents. I go with a couple pair of Patagonia capilene 2 boxer briefs. I bring a couple different colors to keep track of what I've worn and need to wash. They breath great and prevent chafing. Highly recommended.
Endeavor to persevere.

Ha! I'm just going to keep the underwear thread going!
Check out the "scent control" underwear in the hunting section of Cabelas, Bass Pro, or places like that.
X-Static is one brand...find the kind with silver fibers weaved in. Silver is truly antimicrobial (much better than antimicrobial "treated" clothing).
I bought a pair of X Static socks and wore in my work boots for a week straight without washing and NO odor!
The silver will stop jock itch and foot fungus (in socks) in its tracks. Pun intended.
I use X static base layers when deer hunting, keeps me from stinking. I don't change or wash a pair of underwear in an entire 9 day wilderness trip.

oh, cottonelle all the way! Its kinda got these ridges that increase the surface area of each sheet thus increasing its wiping power and efficiency.

On underware...
Patagonia capilene for me. I bought my first pair about 20 years ago from Piragis outlet, that pair has yet to wear out. Indestructible, comfortable, and packs small.
On TP...
When my wife retired from Proctor and Gamble she was working on Charmin. She can spend a loooooooooong time explaining the virtues of Charmin. She can cover the cleaning effectiveness of Charmin compared to the rest as well as how Charmin is more environmentally friendly than the rest. We even have a bobblehead (actually bobblebutt) blue Charmin bear.

Speaking of underwear, on the way home from the river today my wife and I were discussing a new intervention to discourage vehicle break in/tampering. I'm going to get an old pair of underwear and take a little wood "Stain" and decorate the underwear with it strategically. I will display this underwear prominently on the dash. I'm dead serious about doing this! I believe if Mr. or Ms. Thug is scouting for vehicles to break in to, they see this and move right along to the next vehicle? If I were a criminal, I WOULD (LOL)!

I've been buying the MeUndies brand online. Took them on a trip last summer and loved them. Doubled as swimwear...although my daughters were not happy with me for swimming in them.. :D
Seriously, though...most comfortable underwear I've ever worn! Don't care that I spend $16 a pair. (I get a new pair in the mail each month). Yeah, that's right, I got an underwear subscription!! Gonna keep it until all the cotton undies are gone gone gone!
Boxer briefs all the way, plenty of support and comfort and fast drying.
Anyone used these? Can you compare to any of the other brands mentioned??
Thanks,
Dave

The dirty underwear car theft prevention trick is similar to one I've heard if to mark a stroller at an amusement park: take disposable diaper, pour some coke on it, stick it in a clear plastic bag and tie to the handle if the stroller. Might work in a car too.
BTW, in the BW I wear some quick dry undies, change daily, and wash once during a trip. But then, my wife is along and so some extra cleanliness is in order compared to some of your trips.

Thanks for all the great info and opinion. I order 3 pair of Exoffico boxer briefs off Amazon. They should be delivered today I will post my opinion/experience with these underwear. I also agree that good underwear is an important piece of equipment. I do have two pair of Under Armor compression shorts boxer briefs. They work great, but prefer a front fly flap for ease of use. I have high hopes for the Exoffico.

I just picked up two pairs of the Exofficio boxer briefs from Cabellas on sale at $19.50 ea. and am disappointed with the fit. I'm one that likes my underwear or pants not ride above my belly button. These ride too high in my opinion. I'm afraid that they could strangle me later today if I'm not careful!!

I bought two pairs of the Exoficio boxers (not boxer briefs), and I wish I would've only bought one. I don't know if it is because the material is so thin or that the material kind of static clings to my skin, but they are always working their way into my crack. Super annoying to say the least. It is a bummer, cause I really like the comfort otherwise. Maybe I'll have to try the Duluth Trading Co. ones.

I bought three pair and I have not had the problem of them riding up like I keep hearing on this thread. Honestly it feel like I'm not even wearing underwear. Also no sweaty wet feeling after a busy day outside like I get with cotten. I plan on buying more after my trip. Three should last me the six days with a bit of washing.
Does anyone know if the different colors go on sale at different times? I want to be able to at least tell them apart. Eventually I plan on replacing all my underwear with God's beard hair, AKA ExOfficio Give 'n Go Boxer Briefs.

Just got back from my trip - I brought 2 pairs of long johns. I really wanted to try merino wool so I bought a pair of Ice Breakers . .and also a much cheaper set of REI mid-weight polyester long johns.
I definitely put both pairs to the test. I fell into the water with the IceBreaker bottoms and the REI tops so I got to test how fast they dry. The temps were lower than my sleeping bag could handle on a few nights so I got to test sleeping in them as well. I also wore them 80% of the time under my pants which were the quick-dry shell type and didn't offer much warmth on their own. I wore cotton boxers underneath.
The Ice Breakers get the slight nod in all-day comfort. Paddling, portaging or just sitting around in camp - they always felt comfortable and not too hot or too cold.
In all other areas, I preferred the REI mid-weight polyester. They're way cheaper. They dried much faster. Except being slightly too warm on occasion, they were almost as comfy as the Ice Breakers. Put it this way . .I never felt uncomfortable wearing the REI's but I could notice the difference when switching pairs.
I'm glad I tried out the Ice Breakers and will definitely use them for a while . .but when they wear out I will replace them with something more like the REI mid-weights. The price just wasn't worth the slight improvement to me . .and drying time is an issue because I seem to always get my clothes wet, lol.

Eighty-three and counting! Undies are going for a hundred! GO UNDIES GO!
If it makes any difference for the male paddlers, I prefer a few pairs of cheap swim trunks with liners. They are shorts, they dry fast, nothing to change into or out of for bath time, very washable and they breathe.

Well this thread has been going since early May. So at the end of May we were in Madison picking our son up from college, and of course we had to stop at rei. So when I saw the rack of exofficia I drug my husband over and told him to pick a color, he was getting some regardless of the price. After some resistance - he finally picked some. So fast forward to today. He just got back from a week at a fly in fishing trip in Canada. When I asked about the new underwear, he did say they were really comfortable. High praise from him! And no comments on how they should be comfy for that price, so he must have liked them.

I have now tested my exoffico boxer briefs while golfing Sunday in chicago (it was quite warm, mid 80s), while walking all over the place at a farmers market while again it was pretty warm, and several other active times in the heat. I love them. I can barely feel them and they keep my under carriage cool and comfortable. I'll be getting another pair for my September BWCA trip for sure.

I have these and I'm a complete convert. I've thrown away all my old cotton boxers, and Buck Naked are all I wear now. Both boxers and boxer briefs. They're expensive, but worth it.
I just ordered a couple of their Armachillo boxers which are supposed to be "cooler." We will see. They were on sale today.
I have a friend who makes similar arguments for Under Armor boxers and boxer briefs but I have yet to try them.
