The warbonnet hammocks are not wider but feel wider because they have the foot box. I went from the HH expedition to the 1.7 double layer blackbird, and love it. One of my favorite things about the hammock is the shelf. You can keep extra gear in the hammock with you. I have mine setup with a large ridgeline organizer as well, this allows me to keep all my clothing in with me.

+1 The footbox, shelf and craftsmanship make the WBBB my favorite.

My 1.7 feels spacious. I never owned another so can't compare but I doubt I'd use another brand. I love the craftsmanship and the personalized service from Brandon. He knows how to do it right.
The shelf and footbox are great and I love the olive green color too.

My first was a bottom entry HH and I up graded to a WB. It feels a lot more spacious and I like the side entry and the shelf. I understand the newer WB are made so you can see out better.

Most of the comments on feelings of room are based on the HH Expedition. The Explorer Deluxe is much wider/longer hammock and has a great deal of room in it. I had a HH expedition and felt too tight in it. The Explorer Deluxe is a much different feel of a hammock.

I have Hennesy Expedition Asym, Clark Jungle NX 150, and I just placed an order for Warbonnet Blackbird XLC with Yeti underquilt. My oldest son asked, "Dad, why do you need 3 hammocks?" I said I try to get 3 of everything, one for me, one for him, and one for his brother. He asked, "What about Mom?" Sadly, I told him, Mom is a city girl and she doesn't want to come on our trips. :(

I've got a hammock area behind my house, you'll have to stop in one of these trout trips.

Can't speak to the advantages over a HH Asym but I have the WB BB 1.1 Double Layer and find that the foot box gives me tons of room to stretch out. But I will admit I am likely smaller as I am female. I too love the shelf and have added ridge line organizers.

Enjoyed the video Shug. I have the double layer 1.7 but have a plan to hatch to get me that new big boy. I simply tell my wife I'm giving my "old" Blackbird to our son for Christmas. :)
That XLC is really all I would ever want in a sleeping hammock. Comfortable and versatile too.

If any of you get a chance to check out the RidgeRunner, I highly recommend it! For what it's worth, I have felt way more comfortable in the bridge hammock style and wake up without any soreness due to constriction of the hammock around me. I can only speak for the RidgeRunner hammock, not the other bridge hammocks out there. Overall, I'd say warbonnet is the only hammock company I would purchase hammocks from in the future.

As a pleased user of the Black Bird I have finally got the UQ set up just right and am good to go. Now Vader Strom comes up with this Ridgerunner and points out how he doesn't feel the same constriction. Okay, I do notice this constriction and have had some sore shoulders/upper back and think there is a remedy. More money, more gear, oh my.
Question. Will the UQ I have for the BB work with the RR?

Howdy Bhouse. The underquilt you have for the BB will work, but it will come over the side of the hammock as it is only 30'' wide in the middle portion of the hammock. Don't worry about that width, it is what makes the hammock so comphy. The hammock is an hour glass shape, but when you lay in it, you notice it is that shape in order to keep you flatter on your back and not sag as much. I use a DIY karo step down underquilt for both my gathered end ENO and the Ridge Runner. I can sleep great in both setups, but the roominess and overall comfort of the RR is unmatched in a gathered end hammock. Some switch to the RR and go back, but it is definitely worth a try. You really have nothing to loose as their resale value is about $1 less than what you'd pay for it. The details, as i'm sure you've noticed with the blackbird, are fantastic.
Let me know if you pull the trigger. We'll have to get a Minnesota fall hang planned to get all the hangers together.

Thanks guys, and as usual Shug you show it so well. I was concerned the gathered end of the hamnmock/UQ would be a concern, but that seems not to be the case. I am using an hammock gear incubator 20 degree with extra stuffing and full length.
Next season. The budget is already blown for this year.
And I sure hope to be hanging at Fall wing.

Shug, your youtube videos are awesome, thanks for putting that information out there for people.
I bought a ridgerunner (and LOVE it) last year before my first trip into the BWCA, after having a frustrating series of backpacking trips in my ENO doublenest/bugnet/rainfly configuration. Despite adding a ridgeline and focusing on the 'angle of the dangle', I could not get comfortable in a gathered end hammock.
Here's a picture from 'hammock city', a 5* site on Fourtown lake.
We realized that our group had all three main types of hammocks. My buddy john (front hammock) has a Hennesy Expedition asymmetrical, I had loaned Andrew (back left) my ENO doublenest and bugnet, and I had (back right) my Warbonnet Ridgerunner with an ENO tarp. The ENO tarp is just barely long enough, and in windy rain only works well if the system is run north/south and not east/west. I usually hang my socks over the pointy ends of the spreader bar to keep them from rubbing on the tarp. I may get a superfly at some point, but this setup is working for now.
The ridgerunner I have is the double layer, and I generally insert a small (just long enough to cover my shoulders to the top of my thighs) thermarest closed cell foam sleeping pad if it's going to be cold. In freezing temps, I'm not sure If I'd still be as comfy without a UQ/TQ, but I don't do much winter camping.
While I love relaxing in a gathered end hammock, I just can't sleep in one. The ridgerunner is incredibly comfortable for me, doesn't have any shoulder pinch, and is nowhere near as unsteady as people suggest. With the regular straps, it has an incredibly long hang, and swings gently in the evening breeze.
I will never go back to sleeping in a tent or gathered end hammock, despite the fact that with the spreader bars and tarp system I end up about as heavy as my backpacking tent system (~5#).
When you're going through hell, keep going.
