My trip this coming week is forecasting high 40's to low 50's overnight, winds single digits. How would you outfit your hammock for the night? Sleeping bag/pad? Underquilt? All of the above? Not looking for advice on what I should do, I already know what I'm doing :) Looking for "what would you do?"

I only use a sleeping bag and a pad. I was out the last weekend of May, and had lows in the upper 20's, and was warm all night. If it gets colder than 40 at night I just layer up with long johns, and a stocking hat. It also helps that I'm a very hot sleeper.

All I ever use is under/over quilts. They are both rated to 20 deg. With the underquilt I have it shock cord and snugged up. The warmer it gets, I let it hang a little more freely.

While I do have a double layer blackbird, I have never did the pad in between the layers. My down incubator packs down smaller than my exped pad so I have never even consider it. Just my 2 cents.

I used my HG 0° incubator and 0° Kelty Sleeping bag, i always wear wool socks, fleece pants and a lightweight wool sweater with a stocking cap. Was very toasty down into the 20's on my last trip, actually slept in my undewear and no socks and a lightweight UA t-shirt the night it was in the upper 30's and was still very warm.

I can't say I would use a different setup down to the low teens, maybe even lower.

I don't have a top quilt rated down to 20F, it is only rated to 40F. But my UQ will take me to around 15F. In colder temps I bring my sleeping bag and top quilt.

At 49 degrees, I'd hang very comfortably with my 40 degree top quilt and 20 degree under-quilt.

I'd be hanging in my 30 degree top quilt and my 20 degree bottom quilt. Silk long underwear for comfort and a few degrees extra warmth if needed.
