Hi all,

We're a few weeks away from hitting the BWCA; and this is the first time we haven't stayed at a room/motel. We are heading to Fall Lake to camp out our pre-trip.

Being from a part of the country that has tree challenges (Nebraska), I'm always a bit nervous when going to new campgrounds - especially when I'm relying on hammocks, and don't have a tent with me.

I did do some satellite snooping, and picked up site 33, as it seemed to have the most trees for the 9-person tent sites.

We'll have 2-4 hammocks total, so tree space will be premium.

Any experience with Fall Lake that can help?

Thanks in advance!

Ive stayed at Fall Lk CG a few times on the night before our entry. The sites I recall are nicely wooded but I never paid attention with regard to hanging. I think you would not have any problem for 1-2 hammocks but you might have to get creative for 3-4.

I haven't stayed at 33 but as I remember I think that site is down in a nice little hollow. Can't remember the trees but I think it has plenty of space.

I hung one hammock at site #42, trees were a bit small but fine for my weight.

I was just there a week ago for my family car camping trip. We stayed on the other side but if I remember correctly you should be ok. The trees are pretty dense through that area and there were some widow makers to keep your eye open for. If you have long enough suspension you will have no problems. With 3-4 hammocks some will end up tight and some will be strung out long. Remember LNT, I want to be able to hang my hammock again next time I am there.

No doubt - and I certainly have the suspension pieces, being in NE. Trees are a commodity not certain in this state, and I make sure to carry my 10' straps always.

Thanks all for your help!

Diverting slightly, adequate trees with spacing and size are limited at many campsites. I have been hanging since 2011 and pay attention to camp sites as I paddle around. As I am sure you know, most will accommodate one or two hammocks nicely, but more than that becomes an issue at many sites. Make sure everyone has plenty of longer straps.
