We got the Big Agnes Chimney Creek 6 mtnGLO tent this year for our family tent. It worked great and weighs in under 15 lbs. As an FYI the lights are nice in that you don't need a head lamp, but nothing a lantern couldn't accomplish (except you don't get shadows because your in front of the lantern with the built in LEDs). They were not, however bright enough to read with so in my mind it's debatable if they are worth the extra expense.

Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about tents, went first time last year and rented. But if a new UL4 is $360, is $330 really a fair price for a used UL3? I went with Voyageur North Outfitters and I believe we used an Alps tent of some kind.
UL4 at BackCountry.com
Yeah, I must be thread-crapping now, as the tent we had is $70 at vnorth.com used:

WOW Backcountry has completely redesigned their website. Good luck finding anything there! Looks like they've gone the same direction EMS did years ago; promoting clothing instead of gear.

Pricing and value are completely subjective, whether retail or private sale. I've seen the UL3 go for more than the UL4 on eBay a number of times, and the UL4 retail prices can run from $650.00 at REI down to $250.00 for a closeout model that I picked up last year. I think really the question becomes what size tent does one want or need. Both tents are awesome.
Endeavor to persevere.

Agree. I HATE their new design, and I have sent them many emails. Apparently I am not as important as I think I am!

I have a copper spur ul3 and I love it. I have even taken it on just a solo. You can't price big agnes tents on capacity. The UL3 is the lightest weight 3 person tent big agnes sells, and I think the list price on it is about $500 without extras like the footprint. The next down 3 person tent by big agnes goes for $400 and is very similar but 1 pound heavier. Like many camping things, tent price is often more a function of weight than capacity. I got mine during a spring sale at REI two years ago and it still looks like new after two summers of constant use.

If you have no one buy it on here place it on ebay or post it on one of the Facebook backpacking flea market sites, there are like 12 of them. It will be snatched up in short time.
if you need to know the names of all of the Facebook sites let me know and I'll email them to you.

Chicagored did a good job of answering the question. A tent like the one I packed out with VNO was around 9#. This tent is around 3# or 4# packed. And although a different tent (UL4) is $360 new, this tent (UL3) still retails for $450-$500 new, making $330 a fair price in comparison.
Where does all the weight reduction come from?

I'd love to send this to someone in the community. But if not, that's life.
