Anyone been on the SHT lately? Plan on hiking a section of it in several weeks. (day hike) on either snow shoes or xc skis. Pardon my ignorance - but are there classic trails - or do we need to blaze our own?

Eventually I would like to hike longer sections of it to eventually complete it.

I can't imagine skis as a practical mode of travel on the sections of the SHT I have hiked in summer. Check out some of Shug's videos of winter hiking in the SHT. Just search shug on YouTube.

And yes, expect to blaze your own trail through the snow.

Snowshoed part of the SHT this past weekend. There is no way one could xc ski right now. Way too much snow on the trail In parts I'd say there is at least 24+ inches of snow!
