I was looking for some recommendations on any AM-FM-Weather Radios that might work around the Gunflint Trail. My Sony AM-FM could only get 1 station in Grand Marais the night of the June 20 storm and that weather coverage was not very comprehensive. I haven't been around that area for about 3 years and any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks, Hiawatha

I think that the station in Grand Marais is the closest one to that area. It gives you a general weather forecast but that is the weather next to the lake, not inland. I try to tune into WELY for better weather info inland. I have used the small Sony radio, now I use a CCrane Pocket AM/FM/ Weather radio. The Sangren radio is the same as the CCrane pocket.

I've been doing entry points on the west side this past 3 years, I was really used to WELY. I just ordered the pocket CC Crane before I checked back on the messageboard. I had a larger one that got trashed by the grandkids. I am sure the smaller pocket one will be just as good as the other CC Crane.

We were camping on the Man Chain during the June 20th storm. I have a Sangean DT400 radio and listened to the reports before and during the storm. Very nice to have an idea of what to expect. We had several trees go down in our camp, one landing twelve feet from the tent. We placed the tent in a well protected area based on the weather reports. This radio has also gotten decent reception at the north end of Kawnipi Lake. I had a cheaper radio that I deemed worthless. Don't skimp, get a good radio.
