I'm heading to Basswood in a month. I have been told their are plate size crappie and bull gills if you know what your doing and where to find them. Would love to try to catch them. If anyone can give me advice it would be much appreciated.

Minnows and jigs for the crappie. A piece of crawler #6 hook either plain or with a slip bobber for gills. I'll shoot you an e-mail with more info.

How do you know my e-mail? How do I get it to you?

You entered in an email when registering. It shows up on under your username when you post. (little envelope icon) Others have it as well if they have an email in the system. I right click on it and Copy Email Address since my default email isn't the one I normally use.

Sure it's fun to live bait the panfish but I would defintely be more interested in using artificials. Pinky jigs, small Beatle spins, cutie pies, tube jigs with stealth bobbers......the possibilities are endless and with the right gear I think the chances for catching them are good. The crappies are a total sucker for pinky jigs and a bobber.........pop it a few times, glide it towards you.......let them take it for 2 ft before flicking your wrist.....works every time.

definitely agree with MT bring some small plastics,we've had great success this year on my local lake with the slurpies for crappies and roadrunner jigs have worked very good too.

You might also want to look for perch in Basswood as well, I have seen some jumbo sized ones come out of there.
