So, if I stick to my limit of one major upgrade per year, I must make a choice.

I have a Hennesy with the supershelter and I cover up with a sleeping bag. I am going to upgrade to a longer, lighter hammock. I am also moving to an under and top quilt.

Which do I do first? The top quilt, or the underquilt?

In the end, I want to really cut down the weight and bulk of my sleep system.

Based on what you say, I would consider purchasing an underquilt first. You can always use your sleeping bag as a top quilt.

A second on the underquilt for the same reason.

What are you using for bottom insulation now? It is acceptably warm, light, and comfortable? If so no reason to upgrade it now.

Is your sleeping bag synthetic or down? If synthetic then I think upgrading to a down top quilt will give you the biggest benefit in terms of packed size and weight.

+4 on the UQ. The nice thing about it too is if weight isn't your biggest concern, get an UQ that's rated to the lowest temp you want to hammock camp as you can adjust it to vent a bit in warmer months.

Yep, UQ.

+5 on the UQ. My favorite piece of gear I own...and it was a DIY!

The super shelter is bulky and relatively heavy. It has a couple pieces. Also, it fits only your current hammock. Ditch it and go with a new UQ.

I can't wait to get an IQ. When I solo with my dog I've been bringing a tent and not hanging. No more of that crap! I'm going to the trees with my pooch in her own little tent next to me.

uq.
i don't know what you are looking for, but uq's can get so expensive. i did my research and settled on this a couple years ago. i do not hammock camp in winter, so i did not need a real warm ,expensive uq. at 6 ft. tall, this uq covers me from my neck to my shins, and with a pad for my feet i am warm enough into the 20's.
i put on a few warm clothes when it got frosty.
it did not brake the bank, and top quality from paul at ahe.
hangs perfectly on my dutch hammocks.

Thanks for the link. I plan to go with down. My goal as I upgrade is to significantly reduce weight and bulk. But since I can only buy one, the real question is temp rating. My pack is getting better, but I am still always over weight in my pack. If I can reduce the bulk more, I can also save pounds with a lighter pack. The packs I use both weigh in at over 5lbs each.

The Hammock Gear Incubator 20 degree underquilt would be my first choice in an underquilt. It absolutely rocks in the spring, summer and fall.

Sounds like you need an UQ. I find my 20 full length to work most of the year (except the hottest part of summer).

I've was in the same boat for a while and went with the under quilt first. A 20 dog is more than sufficient for three season camping.
