No I'm not second guessing this summers trip but rather ogling some possible "off the beaten path" trips for the future. One such lake is Old Woman......looks potentially interesting and reached via a creek off Sabourin lake. Anybody been there or heard of anyone who has?

On these sorts of labor intensive trips it would be good to have an equally foolish accomplice to help with "logistics".

Egads! No one has anything on Old Woman? Someone has been there as its a named lake. Might be a tough road to hoe especially in August. But its on the Bucket list. Claw my way to Bear lake first, set up a camp and then see if it will go into Old Woman. I will give myself 3 days from Sabourin summer of 2018 Lord willing. I will probably need some help carrying fuel for the chainsaw........1/4 sticks of dynamite should expedite matters at the many beaver dams. Big fat stupid fish is the reward, experienced only need apply.

I wanted to look into it but could not find it on the maps I checked. By the shape of a lake up a stream from Sabourin I thought I mayhave found it. Must be a rainy lake, both Bing and Google satellite images had cloud cover if I was in the right spot.

Well Marten I would be honored if you were to accompany me on this unlikely errand ;-) I know this sort of thing is right up your alley. The lake lies north of Sabourin not to far from Musclow. Bear lake is the first stop (another named lake) and then a good piece of work to get to Old Woman. The creek originates at Old Woman lake........may be clogged to the point where it is impassable or there may not even be water to dip a paddle in. Seems doubtful at best but who knows?

Now I see it, I thought it may have been the first lake up the stream (Bear Lake) which looks like you could get through. The satellite images of the area are poor but as I compare the stream to streams I have squeezed down it does not look good. The grass apron on long stretches is good news but not all those sections that go under tree cover. I think the best option would be to go back to Musclow, and when the wind is going to be up for a few days pack a bag and head east to Old Woman!!

You seem like a tall fellow Marten........maybe I could ride on your shoulders and scope out the best way through! ("no, not that way....the OTHER left")

Ah well......one can always dream I guess. I will sneak a peak when I am out that way, who knows. Maybe get to Bear lake at least and check it out. I have little desire to bushwhack cross country with a boat over my head. I have been mostly a good person and feel little need to be unduly punished ;-)

Hey,guys! I like pouring over maps and stuff, but I can't find it. Bear Lake is not named on the map I have. What are the coordinates of Old Woman?
Is it 51.356258, -94.852527?
or 51.381045, -94.874398?

Emails were sent with satellite imagery of said area to mastertangler and marten.

Old Woman Lake is NW of Sabourin Lake. First lake you paddle into is Bear Lake.
Imagery shows a clear paddle to Bear lake but looks like a narrowing passage from there up to Old Woman Lake.
There are no known campsites on these lakes, but knowing the fishing lodge on Sabourin, there is likely something on Bear Lake set up for a shore lunch.

jcavenagh, I could post a screenshot from a map that shows both lakes if you would like.. let me know

You're looking for something that resembles this (of course her feet are a bit higher up the the stirrups causing a forward lean):

Thanks. I see it now at 51.381045, -94.874398. I wasn't sure if that was it.
