Hey I am planning my first trip to the bwca. I would like to base camp it or do a simple easy to navigate route.
Priority in order
Fishing
Scenery
Wildlife viewing opportunity
Solitude.

That being said I'm thinking lake Polly but know there was a fire in the area and was wondering how bad things are there?

I would also like some advice on fishing lake polly if anyone minds helping me out on that.

Also if you want to recommend and easy to navigate route I will definitely consider it. We are both under 30 and fit. So portage's don't worry me. Just don't want to spend more time trying to navigate a huge body of water than enjoying my time. I would like to catch any fish species so that's not a concern either.

We are trying for early June and 5 days

The Pagami Fire in 2011 left Polly itself with burn on the south edges but the main body of the lake is fine. If you enter at Kawishiwi Lake and head north, Square, Kawasachong, Townline and the portages were buned. Once you are on Polly - you are out of the burn. Heading north out of Polly - things are good in Koma, Malberg loop around to Alice. Nice area.

OK thanks that was my planned route to take. Should have mentioned that. How long does it typically take to get to lake Polly?

I have done a couple of trips through there in the last several years, most recently in Sept. You can get some recent information and pictures of the area from my trip report in the Trip Report Forum. The burn area is not bad and I like the paddle up to Polly. It takes me about 4 hours and I double portage. It's 6 miles to Polly, 8 if you double portage, or 7 or 9 miles to the north end of Polly. The burn is not so bad now. I f you access my pictures at shutterfly you will find plenty of pictures of it. You are basically out of it when you get to Polly.
