Good Morning- Heading up ice fishing for trout on Sag next week. Staying at Red Pine Island. Anyone been up that way this season? We would like to hit Jaques narrows and the NE arm. Taking my Dad back up again after 30 years. Any suggestions? Not sure Dad remembers where to go. I have never been to Sag in the winter.

Ice fishing... (shakes head) ... it's 90 degrees here today. I'm sure all you northerners would prefer 90 degrees to the arctic weather you've suffered through this winter, but meanwhile, we haven't had a freeze hard enough to kill mosquitos, and at this point it doesn't look like we're going to. This has been another near-record warmest winter for north Texas (if we haven't broken it already... but we still have another month of official "winter." The mosquitos and vermin are going to be horrible this summer.

Actually for us winter snow play lovers this warm weather is a little too much too soon. We still have ice for fishing tho and Gunflint still has snow.

I love 90 degree weather, but this winter has been pretty mild. We really haven't even gotten a decent snowstorm yet, and most of the snow is melted in Duluth.

We made it back and had an awesome time!!! We limited on trout, which was AMAZING considering most people that we talked to said that it was very slow fishing on the lake. The hot lure was an RPM minnow- I had never fished for trout on that before but it was on fire. They also hit on minnows, and chubby darters. They were less interested in ciscos, but we did take a few that way.
The weather was great for ice fishing, with the exception of RAIN, and lots of it. In Jock's Narrows (Sag) on Tuesday there was 5.5 ft of standing H2O on the ice in that area. The owners of Sagonto took a canoe out and hard water canoed. It was the crazy. When they put the canoe paddle down they hit ice right at the very top of the paddle.
We also fished Gunflint lake- that was great fishing also. The Ice was to thin to get up into Magnetic Lake this year.

Thanks for the info. How thick was the ice where you fished?
