These are false morels (mildly toxic). We found out this past year after eating them for about 5 years. Some of the guys would still eat them since nobody has ever gotten sick. I guess I'm not willing to chance it anymore. They sure were good though.

Unrelated to Mr B's mushrooms; Just a note that Amanita family of mushrooms are also prevalent in the BWCA and are responsible for 90 percent of deaths from eating mushrooms. They were used by the Berserk people (Vikings) in battle; i.e. "going berserk". ref: Stensaas, Mark; 1996, "Canoe County Flora"

Hey Georgia Boy. When and where was the picture taken? Looks like it was a great time to be in the woods. I assume this was late fall somewhere in the BW.

Picture was taken from the portage at the North end of South Hegman lake facing south. The picture was taken October 15, 2006.

This is a photo taken in August on the North End of the Kawishiwi River. Let me know if you get it or not...

Thanks, Bannock. I'm glad you like the picture - and the canoe. The canoe is the Wenonah Prospector 16, and although heavier than other designs/materials, I've found that its aesthetic appeal more than makes up for its extra weight on portages.

It's doesn't really make me think of December, instead I think of the next Bdub sunset I will see.

That's why it caught my eye. I have a wenonah Prospector 16 as well, only mine is burgundy. To date, it is my favorite tandem canoe.
