The portage trail is really a beautiful walk in the woods. There are two campsites on Trident: the NW one is real nice, the SE one is, well, not. Excellent fishery, please be careful with C&R.

The portage from Ensign to Trident or (Triangle on older maps) is pretty easy. The trail has been cleared of giant trees that were in the way at the top of the ridge.

Oh man, if BeaV says it's hard, I think it's safe to bet most of the rest of us on the forum would say it's close to impossible.

Yes, you can go the creek route. I did it once on someone else's "hot tip" and regretted it. Lots of logs in the way which force you to pull around. Ended up just dragging though the swamp because it wasn't worth the effort to try and paddle.

Maybe if the water level is really high, it may be ok. Since that time, I always use the established portages either out of Ensign or Frog.

Hey everyone,

A group of us are heading up in two weeks to BWCA. We enter at 25 and are getting towed to most likely the Ensign portage. I read some good reviews about Trident Lake and that it has a little bit more solitude then Ensign. Anyways, does anyone know if the only way to get from Ensign to Trident Lake is the 105 rod portage or can you get there through the creek on the NW side of Ensign??

Any feedback or tips on these two lakes would be greatly appreciated!

CHEERS!!
