Looks like there are permits open for Sawbill or Kawishiwi Lake on the 29th and 30th.

Are you planning to base camp, paddle in to Phoebe, stay there 6-7 nights and paddle out? If you are, Phoebe would be a good choice. Maybe head out a day or 2 early and spend a couple nights on Alton.

If you're looking for more travel, you could use that same entry point and head north. Travel up to Cherokee, then over to South Temperance, then south and through Burnt & Smoke to return to Sawbill. This would allow you 2 nights at each lake (Cherokee, South Temperance, and Burnt or Smoke).

That's a good entry point to use, and you don't have to decide on any specific route until you get there.

I see one entry left for #16 on either the 30th or 31st - this would be a great intro to the area. plenty of route options, plenty of fishing lakes.

With this short notice, you should start with finding out which permits are available.

Hi,
I'm looking for some lake recommendations for next week. Specifically I'm looking for good fishing lakes (bass, sunfish, pike, muskie, flyfishing), off the beaten path, or scenic places. I've been browsing the forum but have never planned a trip before so I'll be very greatful for any suggestions!
Update:
Thinking of going into Sawbill to Phoebe Lake, permits are available. Any opinions on the area?
