Hungry Jack Outfitters shuttled my brother-in-law and a buddy to Lac La Croix, and then picked them up in Grand Portage 2 weeks later. I have no idea how much it cost, but probably worth your trouble to give Hungry Jack a call.

I'm having Sawbill shuttle us from Lake One to Sawbill Lake (so we can then paddle from Sawbill Lake to Lake One) this July. It's about $350 for two people and one canoe. I imagine the Gunflint would be a bit more. If it's what makes your trip plan work, it's worth the money.

I asked outfitter once and it was expensive. 4 hours and 180 miles one way. Beaverhouse is about that far from Ely and IIRC was around $600. Google shows Spirit of the Wilderness does "end of Gunflint Trail" for $275 (without outfitting) and Moose for $50.

You might try trip partners forum and see if anyone wants to go opposite direction - meet up before and swap cars.

I've been trying to find time for Grand Portage to Lake of the Woods and that transportation is not easy to solve.

Good luck.

Anybody ever used someone to shuttle between the Gunflint side and Ely? Thinking of maybe putting in at Cache Bay in the fall and ending on Moose Lake.
