Yep, just like Grand Marias is usually 20 degrees cooler than anywhere else it seems. How was fishing, water temps, water levels, etc? How many unmarked portages like beaver dams did you run into on the river?

Yes, my experience is also that the Ely forecast is more like the weather in the interior than the forecast for the North Shore.

I just got back today. Before I left I checked the weather forecast at Tofte. Use Ely instead. Tofte is 15 degrees cooler than Sawbill. It was hot all week (80 degrees or so) in the Sawbill area and the forecast was something like high of 65 in Tofte. Even this morning It was around 80 this morning at Sawbill when I left and at the gas station in Tofte I was cold. Not sure if you knew this or not.

Have a great trip! I'll be using that entry point for the first time June 21st.

I've been in that entry and have gone a couple of different directions. I enjoy the paddle up through there. Have a good trip!

Thanks. This will be my wife's 4th trip and I think my 7th, but our first with just us two. I also have a peak 1 full and will probably bring a whisper or simmerlite and bottle. We did a late May trip a few years ago, snowed on us the first 2 days and ended in the 70s so i know it can change in a flash.

My wife and I will be entering a few days after you. This will be her 4th trip overall, my 15th, and her second time at this entry pt. We have no planned destination, just stop when we feel like it. If fishing isn't promising on what ever body of water we stay, we'll move on. Just a nice paddle and hoping to loose ourselves. As far as weather it could do anything, and I learned once just b.c. it's 80's today doesn't mean 2 days after you enter a 20 degree drop won't happen. My only debate is to pack the polypropylene. We take 30 degree bags and has worked. In the past trips on Memorial Day week it has been cold enough I needed the poly underwear and that was perfect.

I just have a Peak 1 stove, I pack it full of fuel and one 30L bottle. That has always been more than enough.

Lots of good decisions and routes. Good luck!

Last year we took a fall trip to white iron just outside the boundary waters with my extended family. It was my wife and I's first year together without taking a BW trip. That wasn't going to happen again, so we're headed to EP 37 Kawishiwi Lake for our first trip to that part of the park.

We're heading in Sunday the 3rd and have no real plans except push hard on day 1. Anyone else here going to be in that area? We're staying at Sawbill the night before. My basement is a mess right now figuring out what gear we need since we usually go with more than just the 2 of us. How much fuel, lightweight summer sleeping bags or larger warmer ones, plan to wet foot or dry, etc. Do I go with my May gear or my summer gear? Guess I'll watch the forecast as it gets closer, see if this warmth holds or not.
