did the trip last year from east to west, had very good luck, most beaver dams were able to be floated over, the couple of major rapids were obviously unable to be floated down, but not bad. A very secluded loop and only met 1 other set of canoes on the trip for the 6 days, but it also was terrible weather so that might have had some to opt to base camp. Awesome area however to pick blueberries as there wasn't much traffic. But like I said we were able to float most dams but it had also just rained for 3 days.

Conner: "I am looking to travel eastward along the Frost river during early August. I am curious about the usual water level for the river during that time of year?"

Typically August is a drier time of year, but, it is absolutely variable by the year. We went in August (east to west) in a wet year and were able to float over a couple of beaver dams and line canoes through at least 2 rock gardens to avoid those portages. In another year, we have come through to Whipped Lake (in August) from the Little Sag area and people were actively warning us off the Frost River route as there was very little water in it and the passage was very difficult. We have also met travelers on Cherokee Lake that had come across the Frost River in what I considered a drier year. I think it is a matter of how hard you are willing to work.

Check with local outfitters (e.g. Sawbill Outfitters or Tuscarora Lodge) before you leave. They would have the latest info on water levels o the Frost. You could adjust your trip route from there.

Have a great trip!
