10/15/2018 04:21PM After 2 trips this season through Moose (9d Knife-Kek-Fraser-Ima-Ensign and 6d Knife-Cherry-Knife) I'm ready for some different scenery, though both trips were great. I've got 4 routes in mind... but I'm thinking I'll only be able to take one trip next year, so I want to choose the route carefully. 1. 8-10d loop through Q/Prairie Portage: Shade-Kahshahpiwi-Burt-Sarah-Burke 2. 8-10d loop through Q/Prairie Portage:, North Bay-Yum Yum-Kahshahpiwi/Keefer-Kawnipi-North Agnes-South Agnes-Sunday 3. 8-10d "loop" through Q/Cache Bay: Saganagons-Kawnipi-Saganagons 4. 8-10d straight from Sag/Red Rock to Round: Ogishkemuncie-Little Saganaga-Tuscarora Trip would be in early June, as my friends and I enjoyed the weather (besides the wind) and the fishing was good when we did fish, compared to late Aug-early Sept when it seemed like no fish were around for us or anyone we talked to. I'm torn between a travel trip to cover ground and see a lot, or a more relaxed pace with more fishing and hanging out. #3 and #4 are the most likely at this point, with #4 just topping #3 because it's within the BWCA so we won't have to pay daily for the Q or deal with Canadian entry permits and barbless hooks and whatnot. A small price to pay I think but something to consider. #3 should have great fishing and some nice views along the Maligne River but #4 would be more leisurely (the days from Saganagons to Kawnipi and back will be a test for sure!) and also give us plenty of variety. I really want to see Little Sag but fishing on Saganagons and Kawnipi should be awesome so I'm torn. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be an awesome trip. |

10/15/2018 01:16PM I have two goals in the next couple of years: Get into the area east of the Gunflint. Get to Curtain Falls. I usually go late July/early August, but I would love to get in a trip late September. |

10/15/2018 01:16PM Planning on doing a 10-12 day group solo exploring the SW corner of the Q in late Spring. Doing a week long base camp type trip with my wife in the Fall from BH EP in the Q. |

I can see why people like it so much. I came in from the north, but Steve and I were talking about going up through Weird if we don't do the Lady Chain. Hey Steve. The more I think of it, the more I prefer the Baker E.P. There are more options there such as a swing through Brule and Cam instead of North Temperance-Snub, and the lengthening of the route through Smoke and Burnt depending how things go. Your choice though. Much of both routes would be new territory for me. |

10/13/2018 09:20AM I have only been back 3 weeks from my last trip but have an outline for the 2019 trip. Staying at the Bunkhouse at Rockwood. EP #50 Cross Bay down to Cherokee for a basecamp. Depending on how we feel may go the distance in one day, or perhaps spend a night on Long Island. On the way out likely stop on Cross Bay for one night. Do a few day trips - Cherokee Creek, Frost, etc. Go in on 9/15 or 9/16, exit on 9/20 or 9/21. Group size will be 2 or 4 people. I also can't rule out doing a one-way from #50 to Poplar Lake. We'll see what sort of shape we are in by then. |

10/13/2018 08:47AM Don't have a date, but hoping to do some type of loop past American Point, down Ottertrack, down through Knife, Kek, Ogish, Alpine, Seagull. Haven't seen the first couple of lakes on that route. Now the long wait...... |

10/13/2018 08:43AM I'm a planner, it's in my DNA. I got back from a trip in June, within a week my 2019 trip was planned out. We'll spend 7 days fishing in the Thomas/Fraser area. |

10/12/2018 07:31PM I'm always in the process of planning trips, but nothing definite. September is my normal time frame. May do a trip with 2-3 phases - maybe a week with Steve doing The Lady Chain or a Baker to Cherokee, or possibly something farther north. May do a solo or trip with someone else before or after that, but nothing definite - maybe Little Sag, or Ogish/Kek, maybe Stuart River, maybe even Q/WCPP. More uncertainties about next year than usual. |

10/12/2018 06:45PM I am in the beginning stages of planning 2019 trip. I want to go around May 20 for 5-7 days. I recently did my first trip (Sept 27-30) at EP14. Next May I am wanting to concentrate on more fishing/more relaxing as I think we went too hard and didn't take the time to enjoy everything around us. So much learned from my first trip (pack lighter/purchase quality gear). As of this time looking at EP 23 or EP 32 as a start. I guess I have a long winter to make a plan. Again looking for shorter travel days/more days spent enjoying everything around. Can't wait to get back! |

10/12/2018 04:44PM Not sure if I'll get one in next year, but always hopeful. This is my next tour. I promised myself a trip with some bigger lakes and fewer portages. Bunkhouse at Tuscarora Outfitters French Toast breakfast and shuttle to Seagull River Entry#55 Saganaga west to Knife then south to Ogishkemuncie, Gabimichigami then east to Little Sag, Tuscarora and out through Missing Link(#51) to end at Round or Cross bay Lake(#50) to end at Cross River access. I'll take a leisurely 10 days. Second half of July. |

10/12/2018 02:35PM So who has next year's trip planned already? How long of a trip are you thinking and where are you planning on going? If you are undecided then what are your top choices for your next trip? I usually go towards the end of June and am thinking about a 4 day trip to Cherokee. Malberg and wine are options too. If the wife wants me to limit it to a 3 day trip then maybe only Polly. Winchell would be fun to visit again. I'd also love to go back to Tuscarora after the weather prevented us from spending the night there. |
