Thanks guys. I am a die hard with the fly rod though. Will be prepared to go deeper.

We will be in a red Souris River canoe in case you see us out there flailing about.

Jeroldharter, the only SMB advice I have is this: northern end of Ivy Island, in Jean (first-hand knowledge) and northern shoreline of Burntside (second-hand). I will probably be going in that general area beginning 6/11. Good luck with fly rodding. (I'd bring some spinning gear too, if I were you.) =) --Goose

Hello Jeroldharter,

I am heading up there on June 4- June 17. With 2 weeks I am really looking forward to moving around and seeing new territory. Keep in touch, I know Old Grey Goose is heading up that way too during that time too. I have brought fly rods in the past, but being with my son I will stick with flinging some baits and not the line.

Yes, it is a long portage to Jean. Every year I worry about the ice out but it always seems to melt. However, I rarely hit the perfect water temp for spring smallies. I figure this year I have two weeks and can't miss! All this global warming is making the water colder.

I hope the ice is out. ;)

I am going to Quetico for the first two weeks of June, entering Beaverhouse and exiting Twin Falls. Just one friend and me, strictly catch and release fly fishing, focused on smallmouth but love to catch pike also. No interest in walleyes. We plan to base camp and hit Jean and Sturgeon.

In that general ares (which is huge), any advice for smallie locations especially given that the early June period is likely to be cooler water on the large lakes.

I have fished Quetico several times, but never this area. Thanks.
