11/07/2014 06:46AM Thanks, Pete- It was a little spooky, mysterious, mythic :). I should have mentioned that since Steve had already written a very good trip report, I wanted to do something a little different. I decided to have a little fun with it and wrote it that way with my grandchildren and children in mind. Besides, as you may remember from our lunch, that inspector13 is a pretty "spooky" internet dude ;). The Lujenida-Zenith portage was the longest one I've done and it was tough, but not the toughest I've done. I'd still consider the Muskeg-Kiskadinna portage tougher. The Fente-Hub portage was tough too - the climb out of Fente is steeper and it's a little more overgrown, but there's no flooded portion. It helped that I wasn't solo and the load was a little lighter, plus we switched off carrying the canoe, which for me is the most awkward thing, especially on a long portage. I also planned to do it at the end of the trip, so we'd have lighter packs - Steve and I ate "heavy" at the beginning of the trip. We also did it the first thing after a good night's rest and an easier day before. |
