Her ankle is doing better however her back is hurting her from landing on the concrete floor. It looks like we would have had some rain, t-storms and some very warm weather this week in the Q.

Sorry to hear this. I hope she recovers quickly and completely!

I think it really bummed us both out due to all of the planning and work we put into the trip. I had been planning this out for quite some time plus had been doing the packing of gear and getting it all ready, like permethrin on clothing, recoated our rain gear, etc. My wife had been researching some new recipes and gotten all the food planned out and purchased and bagged all up per meal. So when it go cancelled it was a big let down due to all of the work involved in preparing for it. But as you said Thwarted hopefully reading posts on here will lessen my depression.

This could throw off your mojo for a while. A steady diet of this board and new plans will alleviate the lesser symptoms. Long walks in the woods will help with more serious manifestations.
Please know we get how devastating this is for both of you and we wish you well.

Just hitting Quetico Lake or Pickerel has been discussed, so I could go ; but I agree with your decision to not risk re-injury & I am also looking at losing my trip."
Sorry to hear about your broken leg. Yes it's not really worth getting reinjured or hurt some other place just to take the trip.

Thanks for the possible offer. However, I can't get off work then and my 40th class reunion is then and I already paid out $$$ for it.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
As for a solo trip, no, as I prefer to go with someone. Also have not done solo paddling since in Boy Scouts as a kid so not used to it.
As for the short or no portages. I wouldn't want to take her for fear of her getting hurt more just hobbling around the campsite or on a single portage. Not to mentions getting out on slippery rocks, etc.
Also unable to get time off for the two of us to match up until late Oct-early Nov.

There is always next year. So I'll start planning this Winter on for next years trip to do either the same route or a different one.

I am thinking "solo trip."

I would schedule a base-camping trip for two weeks out. Go somewhere that does not require a portage or maybe just one portage. Or a long distance tow to some location. Or drive up to Beaverhouse and one short portage over to Quetico lake with endless possibilities. Just some thoughts to keep the dream alive.

Because its clean and already packed into smaller packs. It takes at least a couple days to unpack and clean up gear after a trip.

And because its a real bummer to have a trip all prepared and having to cancel so you get it over and done to move on. I only have had to cancel one trip and it is a real downer. Sorry about your loss and hope your wife has a great recovery.

That is indeed a bummer. It was be a huge disappointment and let down for you. On the other hand you can be thankful it is a sprained ankle and not something worse.
Next year you will have to double down and take a 14 day trip!

Well, I am totally bummed out as I had to cancel my trip to the Q. My wife and I had plans to put in Sunday for a 7-day trip. However, my wife fell at work and severely sprained her ankle. So she is in a air splint and on crutches for the next few weeks.

The only bright side to this is I found out it takes a lot less time to unpack then it does to pack. I spent days packing and getting gear ready and it took only about 45 minutes to unpack and put the gear away. Why is that?
