Been to the Boundary Waters five of last six years. Overall great experiences. We've been there in May , August and September. Fishing results have varied from fair to good. It would be nice to catch a few more fish on next year's trip. I'm open-minded to suggestions for time and place we might need to go next year.

Could someone suggest what might be a better-than-average time to go for fishing and what lake or lakes would be advisable? We would generally be interested in the Ely area entry points. Thanks for any help that's offered.

suggesting early June for better fishing. i don't know anything about the Ely side but i'm sure the fishing forum would have past threads, or you could also post your thread in that forum... (if you already have, sorry, i read threads top to bottom).

We must be doing the wrong thing up there in June. All we ever hear is "go in June! Go in June!" I have been up there twice in early June and both times had the absolute worst fishing I have ever had in the BWCA. I must just be a better mid summer fisherman than early season. That or we just had absolute terrible weather swings while up there.

Hopefully Mocha goes up in June and crushes fish and tells me his secrets :)

LOL... here are a few photos of early June fishing. i'm sure many folks here have stories and photos to share. the walleyes were shallow. the trout was vertical jigging.

nope, not even sure where that lake is! my only trip so far has been from CrossBay to Cherokee and the lakes surrounding Cherokee. no walleyes, but nice trout and northern. i did not fish but my paddle partner caught a nice sized for eating trout on opener.
