What does anybody consider to be safe ice for one person, two people, a small group etc.
We have guys out on a couple of lakes right now with 1 1/2-2 inches of ice. I won’t go out on less than 3-4 inches of good black ice, and even then won’t stand right next to somebody else. I will admit that as I get older I get more cautious because I heal/recover slower.

If it holds me up, there's enough. A hockey game on 3" is illustrative of the strength of good, clean first ice. Not all ice is good quality, though.
It always bugs me when I tell people I've been ice fishing and they ask me if there's enough ice. Umm, here I am, so yes.
There is only one way to know: bring a spud and check it out.

Yup, better safe than sorry!!
Remember, whether you have 4" or 6" of ice, the thickness is not the same everywhere.
