Hegman Lake pictographs are pretty easy and a fun trip. The Kawishiwi Triangle is also an easy trip to explore around.

Agree on the above. Also, Lake One can be nice. We’ve seen plenty of beaver, eagles, and loons there.

Little Gabbro is a short drive from Ely and one portage from the parking lot.

What are some fun Ely day trip destinations with fishing?

Funny. The 4 that popped in my head when I read the question are the 4 mentioned in the previous answers. There are a few ways to access the Kawishiwi triangle and my favorite is EP 32 South Kawishiwi river

Thanks!

Are there any pictographs other than Hegman Lake that are reachable with a day trip?

Park and start at Isabella Lake (entry 35), head down the Isabella river and hang a left at the Island River. Take out at the bridge at Entry point 34 and hike the mile or so back to your vehicle. Great chance at Moose sightings.

This is actually a great a idea, shame the scenery isn't what it once was but still would be a cool day-trip of about 5 miles, plus the hike.

I was planning a single overnight trip off Lake One on July 1st, if I cancel then I will just head up for a day trip and do this route.

This one would make for a longer day but not too egregious and I may opt for this one, I was thinking about parking at EP 33, then going up through Little Gabbro and around the horseshoe to come down and out through EP 32. PP has it 7.6 miles with portages, then 1.7 mile walk back to vehicle on road. Would be a good day on the water and I would be out and back to the truck by 3-4pm if I start early.
