Nice report. Beautiful area. We were on Snipe during your trip - and EP 50 was definitely a busier route than EP 51. Long Island is a gorgeous lake! Keep those father/son trips going. This year was our 24th consecutive year!

Great report and thank you for sharing. Trips with my kids are my favorite. The one on one bonding time is priceless.

My younger daughter did her first trip at age 5 entering at Cross Bay. We had a heck of a time getting up the river and couldn’t get to the landing for the 2nd portage because of a huge rain storm a couple of days before we entered.

She’s 15 now and excited for our trip next week. I’m taking our 4 yo son to Kawishiwi Lake campground later this summer for a second year in preparation for his first bwca trip next year.

I contemplated a day trip to Snipe but opted to fish instead. We will definitely be going back to that area again. 24 years in a row is awesome. I hope to make this a tradition that my kids want to continue.

The landing on the down stream end of the second portage is close to the rapid, I could see how that would be challenging at a high flow. Best of luck on your trip next week.

Thank you. We are looking forward to it.

1st picture is from that trip at the end of July 2013 and the 2nd picture is from the end of July 2014 on a day trip with my wife where we started at Round and ended at Cross Bay EP parking lot.

My daughter and I could not get up to the portage landing so we unloaded on the far side of that tree and carried everything including my daughter through knee deep water while crashing through the brush.

I love it. Such a great story shared with your son and a great story of the mosquito bites being a "badge of honor".

I never had a son, but my daughter has tripped with me over the years at a lot more places than the bdub. I now have a 1 year old grandson that I've already reserved the permit for in the years to come.

Apparently you can reserve years in advance for grandchildren. No I'm kidding you can't. But .. you can bet I'll be inline every year!
