Folks, I want to love my Lean 3, and I do, but I’m looking for tips regarding how to keep the mosquitoes out. I’m open to modifying it if needed. That said, I bet it could be some simple set up changes. I want to keep using it for our family tent for BWCA trips, but we are getting pretty destroyed in there. Any ideas?

Sounds elementary, but make sure you aren't setting up on ground that harbors the pests. Moss is especially good at releasing hundreds of the little suckers that you never knew were there. An edge to edge ground cloth can help.

Other than that, watch how often you go in and out, and make sure you have the walls down to the ground. A loose drape at the bottom will really help as well.

Edit: I am assuming you have a lean plus with mesh. If not, start there.

Spray permethrin on the mesh-they will die and you will sleep.

I’ve noticed the small openings on each corner where the zipper don’t hit the ground. I’ve put my shoes, socks, etc in the corner to ensure they don’t come in from those.

Don't hang it so high. You can lower it and angle the sides out, there are enough stake outs to fold the side and use some as the front end.

Thanks for the tips everybody, I also found in another thread the tip to put grommets on the sod cloth and floor so they could be staked down together if needed. I’m going out again in a few weeks with my 9 year old daughter and plan on bringing our Lean 3 and trying out your tips. Thank you!

I stake the front so the bug screen is a loose hang as others mentioned. 1 stake in the middle along the bottom of the screen. Works great for me. No more mosquitoes than other tents.

All of this. Also, ensure the zipper is fully zipped & put a few objects on the bottom to keep the fabric held to the ground otherwise a ‘headwind’ can blow the suckers in on you. I try to avoid setting up on grass.

Make sure to use the appropriate sized ground cloth. Fold your sod flaps in and lay your ground cloth down so it covers them.
