I do not have a canoe rack on my present truck. In the past i installed 2 sets of artificial rain gutters on the cap . That was ok with an extended cab truck but with this crew cab if I only use 2 racks on the fiberglass cap ,it will make the canoe back too far and too much of the canoe sticking out the back . I am considering only using one rack on the back end of the cap and one rack above the drivers door . Both Thule and Yakima want to sell me 2 racks for around $600. I will only be using one of the 2 racks on the truck cab as I will have a rack on the opposite end of the truck. . I am leaning towards doing that . I can then keep the canoe centered on top of the truck. Before I make this purchase i thought I would see what others have done in this situation ,with a crew cab truck.

On my Tacoma it came with fixed point mounts on the truck cab on top. Yakima has available a single rack for it and I will use a rack on the back end of the cap of that truck. A simple fix and the rack can be removed by pulling a pin and the base will remain attached to the truck roof barely noticeable .

Thank you for any input .

For my canoe rack, I went through Spring Creek. I bought a single suction cup rack and the single box rack. Very easy to install and have had no problems.

I have a RAM 1500 Crew cab and do pretty much what you are proposing - one Thule bar over the front doors (watch your head if it's a long bar, 78") and not a cap, but a bed rail mount pedstal style rack on the back. This works fine and I carry two canoes on 78" bars.

2022 Ram 1500 . I do foam blocks on the cab and then a 2x4 wooden temporary rack with a crossbar that fits into the post hole on the bed of the truck. This rack is just 2 posts and a cross bar with a pool noodle on it. Thats through-bolted to the posts with 45* braces on the right angles to keep it rigid.

Super easy and not $600 for the one or two times I haul a canoe every year

Bought a Rhino Rack single bar, two towers with fit kit. Nice rack. Got it on my truck over the weekend. I haul a ladder couple times a week now thru fall so it's not just for canoe. Well pleased with it.

Thank you for the responses.
