Short story... was given a Garmin Oregon 300 by my brother (huge thumbs up!)
He also loaned me software to support.

My area is part of wcpp and I already loaded topo canada onto my pc. I found that I could not load maps to my gps without MapSource, so I downloaded that. My brother feels that MapSource should then have blended with the other loaded software, but it didn't.
I spent about four hours painfully placing waypoints of portages and camp site locations in BaseCamp and now apparently need to move them to MapSource before I can load both on the gps. Is this true? Is it possible?
Thanks for any help!

What was your solution? I'm having similar problems....

My issue has been the GPS only holds 1k waypoints.

SO I delete any in areas I won't be traveling in till I get down to 1k then I transfer the file.

Mine is the same, I have a Vista HCx. For my trip last fall I went thru & deleted any of the campsites, portage trails, and other items until I had it whittled down to the specific area we'd be in. Then I transfered that to my GPS.

All in all it was a few hours work.

My 7 year old "waterproof" magellan died when I got it wet on my last trip. My biggest complaint with it was it only held 500 waypoints. It would be nice to just load all 4000 or so waypoints and be done. Nope, I have been looking for a new one and it looks like even the high end ones wont hold that many.

It went this way...
I placed all my way points (one for each camp site in the area that we'll be paddling and one at each end of each portage in the area where we will be paddling) on the Topo Canada map and tried to download to the gps. It only downloaded the way points, but not the map. I found out that I needed MapSource to place the maps on the gps. I downloaded that, and awaited instructions from my brother who has done this. He originally told me that they had to be sent to the gps (map and way points) together. I got tired of waiting and tried moving the map by itself and got both the map, and the way points that were already on the gps.

I did all upgrades offered by Garmin as I was doing this, and I believe that helped.

Also, pass on purchasing the Google Earth feature that is offered while doing this. I read reviews and most everyone wished they hadn't wasted their time and money on it. It downloads super slow, and is very grainy.
Another thing that may have helped... I only loaded the section that is needed for my trip.

The reply that I got from Garmin... after the fact.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I would be happy to assist you with this.
First, please export your file by following the instructions below:
Open Basecamp
Choose the File with your waypoints, or create the waypoints
Select File
Select Export "File name"
Ensure the file type is GPX or GDB
Save the file
Open MapSource
Select File
Select Open
Navigate to the saved file from Basecamp
Select OK

The waypoints will now appear in Basecamp.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
With Best Regards,
