Great report, thanks for sharing. I was hiking the angleworm trail the 19th and 20th, and got hit by thunderstorms friday night, not a whole lot of fun. Glad the wizard straightened everything out for you.

Love the Canada pictures. I have (I think) Spartan2's recommendation of a route through Canada bookmarked somewhere - I think from your trip report last year? We were going to do that this year as part of a road trip, but plans changed. Will bookmark this report too for future planning, for when we get back to the road trip plan. Thanks for including the travel info.

I've always resisted buying a jetboil, but your fuel usage is really amazing.

builditbetter22- We were pretty lucky with the weather :).

NotLight- Yes, I got the Canada suggestion from Spartan2, who pointed out that it wasn't much farther - maybe 50 miles - for me to return from Grand Marais by way of Canada than to backtrack to Duluth and go across MI's U.P.
YMMV :).

The JetBoil is quite efficient. There are other similar ones now. It also is very light and compact. A small canister fits inside the pot with the burner and stand. I discovered very quickly that it boils the ~12 oz. of water I use so quickly that I must have everything ready before I light it; otherwise it's burning up unnecessary fuel while I get things ready ;). I don't bring my water for coffee to a full boil, which saves a little.

I should also point out that Steve used a Coleman white gas stove and was surprised at how little fuel he used by just bringing the water to a boil and rehydrating the meals in a cozy.
