In a little more than three weeks, I’m heading to Quetico for my annual solo trip. I’m entering through a northern EP, (Nym Lake/Batchewaung Lake) and I ultimately plan to travel through Sturgeon Lake, the Maligne River to Lac La Croix, and then east through Iron Lake, Crooked Lake and then eventually turning north to return to my EP.
I’ve accessed Sturgeon Lake from several different directions in the past, (i.e., Jean through Burntside and Rouge, Pickerel Lake and down through the "B" lakes, and by way of Dore' Lake through Deux Reveries. But for this trip, I want to change it up a bit and access Sturgeon Lake from another direction.
I’m considering traveling through Jean Lake, Jean Creek and heading southwest through Boulder Lake to Your Lake. From Your Lake, I then plan to continue southeast down Bentpine Creek to Sturgeon Lake and then enter the Maligne River en route to Lac La Croix.
I’ve traveled through Jean Lake and Bentpine Creek before, but not through the aforementioned route between the two. Has anyone done the Jean Lake, Jean Creek, and Boulder Lake to Your Lake route? If so, what can you tell me about travel conditions between the southwest portions of Jean Lake to Your Lake. Seems there's not much data on this route
Alternatively, I’ve also considered traveling through Jean Lake, Burntside Lake, Clair Lake, and Bentpine Lake to March Lake en route to Sturgeon Lake and beyond. Has anyone traveled this way?
I realize this is not the most direct route to Sturgeon Lake and the Maligne River, but I'm just looking to travel through a few lakes and portages' I've yet to see.
