Ok, you may know that I like to do fun things in the woods with food & drink such as make pickles or coffee cake
Well here's my latest mad scientist idea.
My buddy says to me, you know, every year we bring some bourbon in a Nalgene to sip at sunset. It's nice and all but to be honest I don't like warm whisky. Maybe we skip it this year?
"OR..." I think. "Maybe we make cold drinks somehow!"
So after a bit of a brainstorm I ordered some of those instant-cold packs from Amazon, you know, where you smash the pack and it turns ice cold for like 20 minutes? They're less than a dollar each and don't weigh all that much.
Couple weeks from now I will prepare and enjoy some nice cold Old Fashioneds (oh yeah I'll bring a little squeezie of bitters) somewhere East of Snowbank Lake.
Pics to come - stay tuned!

This ended up a FAIL
We had brought our whisky in a plastic bladder and stupidly left it out in the campsite our first night. Woke up in the morning to discovery that a mouse had chewed through the corner of it, spilling the whisky.
Not only did we have to go the rest of the trip hootch-less but did not get to experiment with the cold-packs. ARGH!
Something to try next year... stay tuned

Ahahn366: "After drinking warm rye this spring I rigged up a rock and sunk it in the lake obviously had a recovery line on it. I have been toying with the Idea of bringing some dry ice and a ice cube tray. I'm thinking a proper cocktail"
Warm rye with Crystal Light Lemonade is an acquired taste.

Jaywalker: "I suspect that most of us, if we were comfortable being completely honest, would admit we enjoy making pickles in the BWCA.
Secondly, this thread reminds me of my favorite thread of all time on this forum - I Need Ice! "
Hahaha….I have not seen that thread. Hahaha
We certainly want what we want and will go to great lengths to make it happen. I mentioned this in another thread at some point… I was on a terrible portage on one of my river trips… My buddy and I are sitting there at the end cussing and worn out…here comes a guy carrying a case of Diet Coke cans. (Not in BWCA) he just said boys I got to keep my wife happy.
