03/30/2018 07:28PM Just checked permits and Mudro is gone now there were 2 left the other day, looks like I was to slow. I think i might be leaning toward Sawbill now over the Moose river entry. I figured it will save time also being able to park at the outfitter on sawbill instead of having to pick up canoes then drive 45 min to the entry point. |

03/30/2018 04:14PM Agreed with the earlier posts that Mudro would seem to be the best option, assuming you can still get a permit for the middle of the week. Horse may not be all that busy since a lot of people seem to head to Fourtown or toward Boot Lake. If it is full, that does mean a lot more paddling to find a site on one of the other lakes, but it would be worth the risk to me. |

03/30/2018 03:18PM It wasn’t on your list, but Kawishiwi Lake is nice, and on the quiet side. It’s near Sawbill, accessed from Sawbill Trail. Malberg and the lakes north are good waldo lakes. |

03/30/2018 02:56PM I say Mudro as well. I would not choose Wood as a fishing lake unless, maybe, you were targeting northerns. Sawbill is not a bad choice especially if you are looking for an easy trip - moderate fishing - lots of options. |

03/30/2018 02:29PM I agree with SevenofNine, with Mudro being a first choice. If you have your heart set on Horse Lake you'll want to head out in the morning, but your midweek departure should help with finding a site. That said, you also have the option of going over to Fourtown which has comparible fishing to Horse Lake. I would think Moose would be the busiest of the four, and there is motor traffic to work with as well. I am glad there are mixed motor/paddle lakes to provide access to a larger number of people, but for me that just means it takes a little longer to get into a wilderness tripping mode. |

03/30/2018 02:16PM Since you are heading out in the middle of the week I think you should have a better chance of getting a campsite. If it were me I would take Mudro or Sawbill since I prefer those entries. |

03/30/2018 12:04PM A group of 6 of us will be making our first trip to the boundary waters the end of July i have about 3-4 entry points narrowed down but cant make up my mind. We will primarily be fishing but will also like to get out and venture some. I have the points narrowed down to either Moose, Mudro or Wood with a last option of Sawbill. Mudro was always my number one choice but the more i read about it i know it will be busy and we will be heading out the middle of the week i don't know if we will find a camping spot on horse or if we would have to go to another lake. Looking for any help to help me decide which area to choose or other recommendations, i know permits are gone or almost gone to a lot of other popular entry points. |
