Call the park. They're very friendly and helpful.

walllee: "I’ve never seen Atikokan busy at anytime. "

I guess after reading the other thread about the Q being a KOA, it seemed the batch area was a "heavier" traveled area. Looking to put in on Nym, and basecamp somewhere on the lower portion of Batch or Maria.

I’ve never seen Atikokan busy at anytime.

Not sure if all entry points are the same, but the 16th is the last day Prairie Portage is open. After that date, there is a lockbox and permits at the entry point to fill out so no reservation needed. I would call the park HQ to verify it is the same on the north entry points.

New to the board. Planning a Quetico trip around Atikoken in mid-September. Is the week after the reservation date window busy because there are no longer limits to number of permits or is the mere fact that they no longer require permits because very few people go? Sort of a catch-22 question.

Maybe I should ask this first, but am I understanding it correctly that after Sept. 9 (although I thought I read the 16th somewhere, but now can no longer find it), you do no need to reserve a permit, though you still need to get a permit (which I'm assuming there are no quotas) and pay all applicable camping fees? When I work through the website, it doesn't seem intuitive. Will eventually understand it. Thanks for the help.
