11/03/2014 07:14AM I can receive the weather channel from Duluth. It is clear at my cabin ten miles from Pickerel Lake. I do not take the radio into the Quetico as my radio is too large and you get several days forecast in advance and I usually only canoe in the Quetico five days. |

10/01/2014 10:02AM I was on Pickerel and Buckingham in September and didn't have a problem with signal from Atikokan or Ely...Did have a problem with determining which report was the closest for where we were since there were multiple reports. |

08/03/2014 09:52AM I've used NOAA over the last 12 years with good success. I recently bought an inexpensive "La Cross" weather radio from Target for $29.00. During my most recent Quetico trip, I not only got great reception on at least 2 different NOAA stations, but I was also able to get good reception on FM. Dave |

07/22/2014 11:15PM I just got back from Quetico yesterday, having paddled from PP to Cirrus Lake and back. I could pick up the NOAA station out of Ely the entire time, and in the Cirrus/Quetico area could pick up the NOAA station out of International Falls, too. The Canadian Weather Radio transmitter out of Atikokan seems weaker than the NOAA transmitters, and I could only get a good signal from Russell Lake and points north and west from there. |

07/21/2014 04:30PM Normally NOAA reception (out of Duluth) is very good for me in the Southwest portion of the Park (Crooked, Argo, Darky, etc.). However this year the reception was very spotty. Had to move around the campsite with the radio pointed different directions to get reception. I would think Pickerel would be similar (about the same distance from Duluth). |

07/20/2014 03:26PM As others have said, reports can be spotty and dependent on radio, weather. geography, etc. (At some campsites no reception, at some great reception in one particular spot you had to experiment to find.) You may get the bilingual Canadian/English version, which specifically mentions Quetico, or the US station which gives weather for further south, it's a crap shoot, IMO. --Goose |

07/20/2014 01:32AM We had a weather radio with us last July on Quetico and Cirrus lakes. Good reception of Canada weather, which as stated is in French and English. Reception can be dependent on the quality of the radio itself. |

07/19/2014 10:28PM I used a weather radio on Russell and Batch several years ago. Reception was spotty. At times I needed to climb to the highest point on the island. The reports were in both english and french. Oldmil. |

07/08/2014 04:07PM Hello, Ive read through several posts regarding NOAA weather radios in the BWCA but not really in the Q, specifically the far North sections such as Pickerel. Im curious if anyone has used one in that area and if so are you able to pick up signal, whether its NOAA or a Canadian report...? |
