Just picked up a dragon tamer and am off to a lackluster start. I've only been able to get it operational 1 out of 3 times and only after a serious preheat with the factory burner plate attached.
The videos I've seen show removal of the plate before installing the tamer, but despite a preheat, I still get a flame fountain.
Any help is appreciated.

The burner caps replace the spreader plate so either or never both.
Did you let the prime burn all the way out? That is the key. It should be out, and only then re-light.
Dragonfly with a silent cap
About 3 minutes into the video I blew out the prime and re-light the stove. It is a long video with the full range of operation.
Glad you found one because I-Materialize and Shapeways no longer print the caps.

Thanks Bill and BH.
I’ll give it another test. I just received my cap this summer, sounds like just under the wire. Now to get it working for me.

Seems that this stove requires a longer/hotter preheat when running the silencer cap vs stock. I added more fuel to the preheat for a longer burn and once out, the jet was sufficiently hot to vaporize the fuel and ignite properly.
Thanks again for the replies, this is a great tool and makes the Dragonfly much more enjoyable to use in the morning.

But your ears will appreciate the effort!

Mark, I do have and use a few, 3 actually a 4 row and a 6 row that work very well on my Dragonfly/XGK2's/Firefly. Yet on trips normally do not use them, easier lighting and field service. In camps near other folks the silent caps are used.
Midicap for the XGK2's and XGK Dawg for the Dragonfly/Firefly stoves.
The 6 row XGK Dawg fits on my Dragonfly, the combo is exceptionally high heat output. The Dragontamer is a 5 row, I do not own one.
