We had to abandon our Lac La Croix trip this year. The old timer in our group is getting a knee replaced in March. We settled on a much more portage friendly trip into Long Island Lake.
To satisfy my adventurous spirit, I’d like to spend a day bushwhacking into a lake. Looking at the map, I had a few questions for people more familiar with the area.
Had anybody made their way to Ash, Ferret, Fun, Fawn, or Yogi Lake?
Irish, My McKenzie maps of that area are pretty old and they show portages from Ash to Jay to Cleft to Gunstock to Cash to Town Lake. Back in early 2000's my daughter and I approached this area from both sides on a loop trip. We camped on Town Lake and found a barely discernable path to Cash Lake. We also stopped on Long Island and hiked along the stream the first several hundred yards where we could see the stream open up into an apparently navigable marsh stream on the way to Ash. Watched a moose amble through and went back to Long Island. I've always wanted to do the whole link. Looks to me like Cash is deep enough (40')for fish, imagine lake trout since that's whats in the other lakes in that area but that is just my imagining. This was in the direct path of the big blow down and Town Lake was crushed so I imagine there is a bunch of that in there. I could send a picture of my maps if you wanted. DAVE
