Okay, heading up next Saturday for a 5-6 day trip. Planning on fishing, but I have never fished before in the winter in the BW. If we happen to catch anything-which is unlikely given our ineptitude when it comes to fishing-how do we clean the fish? They will be frozen solid after being tossed on the ice, and we are cold camping. I know I sound like a dolt, but I am not sure how to fillet a block of ice. Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I might be a little late here, but you caould always drill an extra hole, use a stringer tied to a stick. The fish won't freeze if still in the water.

Let em freeze. Build fire. Throw them in the fire. Fish the fish out of the fire. Pick off burnt exterior. Eat cooked parts. Repeat as necessary. I am going up Jan 1-5 but only daytripping off the Gunflint trail.

Snowshoeing or skiing? Fishing? I am looking to plan a weekend in early March and am fishing for ideas on where to go for fishing and camping for 3 nights.

If you are not aware....Walleye, Pike, and Smallies will be closed for the season as of 2/23/14. Lake Trout will be open through 3/31/14.

Skiing only no fishing. A dress rehearsal for a later overnight expedition. Jon

Best option is clean them right away, but if it's warm enough out you can toss them in the snow or a slush puddle and clean them at the days end...they won't freeze. I actually prefer them cold but not frozen...they fillet so much cleaner and easier when they firm up a bit.
